Learn how to create a design using the beautiful art of shibori dyeing. Shibori is a Japanese method of tying and dyeing fabric to create both pattern and texture, taking a flat piece of fabric and manipulating it into sculptural forms. On this course you will investigate a variety of shibori techniques such as stitching, binding, knotting and clamping to create three-dimensional textures on polyester fabrics and beautiful resist-dyed patterns with traditional indigo coloured dyes on cotton fabric and garments.

By the end of the course, students will:
- Explore and familiarise the work of contemporary and traditional crafts people

- Successfully dye up different fabrics using suitable dyes and techniques (ie shirbori/indigo)

- Identify the best fabrics and fibres to use with the different techniques

- Experiment with dye and thread to create individual pieces and creative swatches.

- Produce a final outcome using at least one of these techniques

- Practice safe use of tools at all times in the studio
