If you are aged 19 years or over and intend to take a Level 3 or above accredited course with Kent Adult Education, you may be eligible for a government loan to help with the cost of your tuition. Financial assistance is not available on all courses at Level 3 and above. We can advise you which are included if you speak to your local centre.
In addition, if you are on low income or means tested benefit support may available for contribution towards items such as examination fees and travel costs. This is made available through an advanced learner loan bursary.
Who can qualify?
To qualify you must be:
- Aged 19 or over on the first day of the course;
- A resident in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of the course
- Enrolling on an eligible Level 3 or above course
- Meet funding agency requirements.
Level 3 courses include A Levels, Access to HE diplomas, advanced and higher apprenticeships, and other diplomas and certificates.
Loans are not means tested or credit checked so as long as you meet the criteria you will be able to apply. The loan is paid directly to the learning provider. You can apply for funding to cover all or part of the course, but there is a minimum loan value of £300.
To find out more about eligibility speak to your local centre or follow the links at the bottom of this page.
You are required to repay the loan, however usually you do not pay any course fees upfront and repayments will not begin straight away. You will also only begin paying back your loan once you are earning over £21,000 a year and if your income falls below that at any point your payments are suspended.
The amount you pay back per month depends on how much you earn and should be affordable, this is set by the Loans agency.
The Terms and Conditions of the Advanced Leaner Loan can change at short notice.
