Advanced Learning Loans

If you are aged 19 years or over and intend to take a Level 3 or above accredited course with Kent Adult Education, you can apply for a loan to help with the cost of tuition.

Financial assistance may be available through an advanced learner loan bursary if you are on low income or means tested benefit. This can be used to fund items such as examination fees and travel costs.

Who can qualify?

  • To qualify, you must be:
  • aged 19 or over on the first day of the course;
  • a resident in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of the course; and
  • enrolling on a Level 3 course or above.

Level 3 courses include A Levels, Access to HE diplomas, advanced and higher apprenticeships, and other diplomas and certificates.

Loans are not means tested or credit checked so as long as you meet the criteria you will be able to apply. The loan is paid directly to the learning provider. You can apply for funding to cover all or part of the course, but there is a minimum loan value of £300.

You do not pay any course fees upfront and repayments will not begin until April. You will also only begin paying back your loan once you are earning over £21,000 a year and if your income falls below that at any point your payments are suspended.

The amount you pay back per month depends on how much you earn.

If you earn £21,000 a year you would pay back £7 a month
