Gravesend Adult Education
Do you want to be able to use your Arabic in a range of real life situations? You will benefit from being in a classroom, from exchanging face to face with a supportive tutor and others as you practise speaking and enjoy learning the language.
Successful students will be able to:
• Describe (people, places, situations, events etc) using the present, past or future tense
• Give and follow specific instructions
• Express an opinion and ideas in taking part in discussion
• Make comparisons
• Express an opinion
• Listen and respond to information from a range of sources (telephone messages, news headlines/public announcements, instructions, conversations)
• Deal with emergencies, problems and complaints
Grammar will be expanded. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using present, future and some past tenses. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.
How will I be taught?
This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and in interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking, listening, writing in the chat box). This measure is dictated by circumstances and the course will be delivered back in the classroom as soon as possible. The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Italian culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set targets. This will be revisited regularly during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback
What do I need to bring with me?
The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.
What can I do next?
