This course is delivered online.
During WW1 the British government employed a number of key artists including both new and existing artists. This course will focus on a variety of war artists; many who have artworks in the Imperial War Museum and Tate Gallery in London. Commissioned artists to be explored will include famous names including John Singer Sargent, Percy Wyndeham Lewis, CRW Nevison, Stanley Spencer, William Orpen, Paul and John Nash. There will also be a chance to see the art of commissioned women artists such as Anna Airy and Flora Lion.

By the end of the course students will be able to…..

• Demonstrate a knowledge of different artists
• Recognise the distinct visual language of individual artists
• Identify specific influences relevant to individual artists.
• Develop and justify their point of view
• Take part in discussion with other students

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Deborah Crofts

Deborah Crofts is a practicing artist with a studio on the South Coast of Kent. She has a BA Fine Art from the University of East London and a PGCE gained at the University of Greenwich.
