You love going to Museums and Galleries and look at visual art, but never studied art history before? You would like to investigate a bit further? This course will give you a good basic grounding of art history. During the sessions you will explore the major art movements, looking at art through the ages, describing the context of the artists painters, sculptors and craftspeople from both western and eastern societies. You will gain a comprehensive and engaging overview of the major visual expressions of art.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Demonstrate a knowledge of a selection of artists and movements
Recognise the distinct visual language of individual artists.
Develop and justify your point of view
Take part in discussion with other students
How will I be taught?
Through short illustrated lectures enhanced by group work and discussions. There will be opportunities to express different points of view, compare and analyse the art and periods studied in the course.
The tutor will discuss objectives with you and you will be provided with a Individual Learning Plan to record and monitor your progress as you go along.

A pen and notebook and an enquiring mind.

What do I need to join the course
No prior knowledge is required just an interest in Art History. The absolute beginner is very welcome as well as those who have completed practical art courses.
