This course will explore how modern artists have been inspired by the city and what images of the city they have produced. The course will consider a range of modern artistic practices produced in cities as diverse as Paris, London, Calcutta, Lagos, Rio de Janeiro to name a few. Students will have the opportunity to discover and discuss a range of artworks that will illustrate the unique perspective of the artist as well as his/her relationship to the distinctive urban surroundings, and the benefits and challenges of city life.
How will I be taught?
This will be taught through illustrated lectures, group work and discussion.
What do I need to bring with me?
Pen and paper. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
