This course will help you develop a portfolio of artwork that demonstrates a range of materials and skills. You will learn how to keep a visual diary that records and explores your unique approach to making and learning. The course will introduce drawing, sketching, collage and sculpture as tools for expressing ideas and making finished artworks. It will also explore different approaches to making, including observation and abstraction. The art portfolio you produce can be used to apply for exhibitions, further studies and other creative opportunities.
This is a Level 1 course.
To successfully complete this course you will need to achieve the set course outcomes, attend as much of the course as you can and complete the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), which includes:
• Completing the Initial Assessment
• Assessing your progress against the course outcomes.
• Assessing your own work throughout the course and respond to tutor assessment on the ILP.
• Assessing your achievements at the end of the course

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Camille Serisier
Camille Serisier is a visual artist who works across a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and video. As a National Undergraduate Scholar, Camille completed her undergraduate degree with First Class Honours at the Australian National University (Australia). She went onto complete additional training at the New York Studio School (USA), with the generous assistance of the Vera List Travelling Scholarship. Her work has been displayed internationally in galleries and museums, hard copy and digital publications, as well as in the form of temporary and permanent public art. In addition, she has a wealth of professional experience in the arts industry, having worked as a scenic painter for companies such as Opera Australia and as a curator for organisations such as the Museum of Australian Democracy. As an educator Camille has lectured at the Queensland College of Art (Australia), the University of Canberra (Australia) and been a visiting scholar at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (USA). Born in Australia Camille now lives and works in the United Kingdom.
How will I be taught?
The tutor will use a combination of skills based learning as well as a more expressive approach to creating a portfolio of work. There will be demonstrations of technique and examples of other artists’ approaches to the subject being studied. You will also receive group and one to one tuition. Learners will be encouraged to discuss art and art practices and to learn from one another.
What do I need to bring with me?
You will need a A3 sketch book,
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along to the first session anything you have already that you think will be useful.
