This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
Using reference photos and/or real flowers this course will teach you how to observe and produce beautiful drawings/paintings of spring flowers . Observational skills will be developed throughout and students will learn techniques of painting in watercolour
The tutor for this course will guide you through:
- What to look for to help you when making your drawings
- Consider the composition of the image on the paper
- Colour matching your palette to your plant or flower
- Drawing and the use of line for accuracy
- Help with the further understanding of plant biology
This is a very considered Art that can help you produce drawings to be proud of.
How will I be taught?
This course will be delivered online. You will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as you would in the classroom (speaking and listening).
The session will be tutor led, to enable you to build your knowledge and skills in a progressive structured fashion leading to the completion of the subject.
What do I need to have with me?
You should have:-
- An A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound.
- Hot pressed watercolour paper.
- A variety of watercolour tubes or blocks
Please also have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate or you have used before.

What do I need to join the course
An interest in producing beautiful and accurate drawings of plants and flowers and have some experience in the subject. All students are welcome on the course who are not a beginner to working with plants and flowers.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
