This course give you the opportunity to get an insight of the origin of this important traditional Chinese holiday.
What will we cover? Origin and traditions, customs and symbols linked to the celebration of Chinese New Year. We will be also looking at the Chinese calendar and zodiac.
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Know more about the origin, traditions and customs.
- Have a clear understanding of symbols linked to Chinese New Year.
- Understanding of the Chinese calendar, year of birth and its relation with each animal sign.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Janet Wang
Janet is a native Chinese speaker who has been teaching Chinese in Adult Education, schools and communities since 2007. She is an experienced and qualified (DTTLS-PGCE) tutor.
Our Language tutors are either native speakers or have native-speaker fluency in the language they teach. They have specialist qualifications and experience in teaching a foreign language to adults and all have experience of living in the country of the language they teach.
How will I be taught?
. The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities as and when required.
The tutor will give feedback throughout the session.
What do I need to bring with me?
The students will be using pencils and paper, which will be provided. You may want to bring a pen and notepad for personal notes and a folder to take your work with you at the end of the session.
