This Level 2 course will be taught in Maidstone Adult Education Centre, but should government impose restrictions we would revert to online, which has been very successful so far. It is ideal for anyone who wants to extend their skills with people.
Counselling skills have proven to be effective in many work roles where interactions between people occur. For those who are looking for a change of career to take them into one of the helping professions, this is an excellent starting point and is the first step on the professional route to qualify as a Counsellor. It is particularly relevant for those in education, health, social services, a voluntary organisation, personnel or management.
See the link below which will take you to a video to explain various elements of the Counselling courses;

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Rachel Burns
How will I be taught?
This Level 2 course will involve full learner participation and self-reflection. There will be personal and sensitive discussions in small and large groups, group activities and role plays in pairs or triads (groups of three) followed by observer feedback.
You will keep a reflective journal which gives evidence of your learning and be assessed formatively of your skills through self-evaluation and feedback from peers and tutors, plus a practical skills assessment and a short external assessment. Please note 90% attendance, a high level of commitment and up to 3-4 hours self-directed learning is essential to complete the course.
Assessment will be by a weekly personal learning journal and the observation of practical skills demonstrated during the course. You will be given assignments and/or a research project/presentation. There is also an external exam set by CPCAB.
What do I need to bring with me?
A4 ring binder with dividers, notebook and pen. A laptop/computer/ tablet or iPad with a camera . A student text book will be provided - the cost of which is covered in the course fee.
What can I do next?
The next step is CPCAB’s Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST- L3). See www.CPCAB.co.uk and www.kentadulteducation.co.uk for details or your tutor will advise.
What do I need to join the course
Access to a computer/laptop/ iPad with internet connection to attend any classes via Zoom.
Before enrolling on this Level 2 course, you will need to complete an online application form available at this link - https://forms.office.com/r/5GDWBwXyB3
Following submission of your application you will then need to complete the online literacy assessment using the link - https://forms.office.com/r/YUrHqyUurx
This checks your suitability for the course and helps identify any additional support required. You will be contacted with the results.
The interview involves an informal and honest discussion with a Counselling tutor about your personal readiness, the content and level of the course which then ensures that you understand the personal, educational and financial commitments. You will need to ring 03000 412222 to book an interview slot. This will be confirmed at a later date and you will be sent a Zoom link.
Places are often taken up quickly so early application is highly recommended. It is not necessary to have completed an introductory course before enrolling on this course, but we do advise those with no previous listening/helping experience and knowledge to do so.
It is recommended that you don't enrol on this course if you have undergone a life-changing experience during the last 12 months, ie. bereavement. You will be expected to explore some personal history that you feel safe to share but this course is not a replacement for personal therapy.
