This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.At this fun and relaxing Chocolate & Words creative writing class you will be guided to read & comment on poetry & prose with a chocolate theme and to create some engaging characters based on chocolate box choices. To assist your creative writing, you are invited to bring your own hot chocolate and/or favourite chocolate treat to tap into the sensory pleasures of chocolate. You will be invited to share your responses and writing in a safe, nurturing workshop and if you wish to develop your writing further there are plenty of KAE classes to choose from. Learning Outcomes1. Read & discuss a poem or short piece of prose with a chocolate theme2. Create 2-3 characters based on chocolate box choices 3. Share a selected piece of your writing from the day and listen & respond to the contributions of others
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Susan Emm
The course is led by an experienced and qualified KAE tutor & local writer, who has experience of running classes, groups and workshops at adult education centres, libraries and in the wider Thanet community. Sue Emm is also a member of Lapidus International, the words for wellbeing association and has recently joined the NHS Recovery & Wellbeing College at Adult Education Centre, Margate. Sue holds a Mental Health First Aid Certificate and brings a nurturing approach to the creative process.
How will I be taught?
During the workshop your tutor will use a combination of lecturing, individual exercises, pair work and group discussion.
Your tutor will create a supportive environment that encourages students to evaluate their own work and to give constructive criticism of other's work.
If you have a disability and think it may affect your learning in the classroom, or using any of our other services, please speak to us in confidence as soon as possible. We will discuss options with you and do our best to provide the support you need.
Your tutor will monitor your progress throughout the course and offer you advice and guidance on how well you are doing. You will also have the opportunity to share your work with your fellow students.

An A4 file/notepad and folder for handouts. Pen/pencil.
What can I do next?
Another Creative Writing course such as Creative Writing for Wellbeing, or other KAE Creative Writing & Literature courses or KAE Skills Functional Skills qualifications. The tutor will be able to advise. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to join the course
No previous qualifications or experience are required. You will need to have a reasonable familiarity with written and spoken English.
The course is designed to accommodate beginner students of creative writing with little or no previous experience; however, more experienced students are welcome.
