This course will be held at Tenterden Adult Education Centre at Homewood School (TN30 6LT)
This course aims to enable you to practise and develop drawing and painting skills through a series of focused exercises/project, tailored to the needs of the individual. The course will cover a variety of approach and technique as well as subject. You will work from photos as well as objects supplied by yourself using your own drawing and painting materials. The Tutor will inform you each week what is needed regarding materials. Please ask for advice before purchasing.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter.
- make a preliminary drawing to establish a composition.
- select and use the appropriate brushes and materials.
- explore colour mixing
- use a range of painting techniques for watercolour and or acrylic (washes, glazes, drybrush, wet in wet)
- recognise the styles and techniques of fine artists.
- work to health and safety guidelines.

Our new classroom is near the School Farm. After coming into the school site via the main entrance, turn immediately left, go straight on past the main school reception and past the main exit, you will then see signage directing you to our classroom.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Caroline Clough
Caroline Clough has a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art. She has exhibited and sold paintings in galleries in London and the South East and has taught painting and drawing with Kent Adult Education since 1986. She currently works mainly with watercolour, mixed media and acrylic and enjoys experimenting and working with a range of subject matter.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook.
You will receive one to one feedback throughout the course.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
