Would you like to further your drawing skills? If so then this Improvers Drawing course is for you.
This course is designed for those who have already completed a beginner's drawing course and who would like to develop their technical abilities and learn how to explore their own unique drawing practice.
This course has a structured but relaxed learning plan which will identify your individual needs to help you reach your drawing goals.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Identify compositional elements in works of art
- Produce drawings that reference both primary and secondary subject matter
- Identify artists whose work inspires you
- Use a variety of materials to produce a series of drawings
- Produce drawings on a variety of scales
- Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Camille Serisier
Camille Serisier is a visual artist who works across a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and video. As a National Undergraduate Scholar, Camille completed her undergraduate degree with First Class Honours at the Australian National University (Australia). She went onto complete additional training at the New York Studio School (USA), with the generous assistance of the Vera List Travelling Scholarship. Her work has been displayed internationally in galleries and museums, hard copy and digital publications, as well as in the form of temporary and permanent public art. In addition, she has a wealth of professional experience in the arts industry, having worked as a scenic painter for companies such as Opera Australia and as a curator for organisations such as the Museum of Australian Democracy. As an educator Camille has lectured at the Queensland College of Art (Australia), the University of Canberra (Australia) and been a visiting scholar at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (USA). Born in Australia Camille now lives and works in the United Kingdom.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. To benefit fully from this course, students are advised to practice the exercises and pieces in their own time.
You will keep a notebook and update an Individual Learning Plan to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.
Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your Tutor's advice on what to buy. However, you should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you
What can I do next?
To continue and progress your art journey, it is advised to undertake a follow on Drawing or Art Course and your Tutor will be able to advise. Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of art and will support application to Access to Art and Degree Foundation courses relevant to Art and Design.
What do I need to join the course
All students are welcome on this course who have already completed a beginners course or do not consider themselves to be beginners to drawing. Students are encouraged to participate in a Beginner's Drawing course before enrolling in this Improver's course.
