This course will take place at Dover Discovery Centre and may be delivered online following any Government guidance on Covid 19. This course is for complete beginners with little or no knowledge of English. You have a few words but communicate mainly with gestures or a translator. You find it difficult to recognise the English alphabet, write independently or sound out unfamiliar words when reading.
You will learn basic practical English for everyday life and for working in the UK and you will make progress with the basic grammar of English. Speaking, listening, reading and writing are all included, with special emphasis on speaking and listening.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Ana Baker
Ana is a native Spanish speaker with more than 15 years’ experience in teaching languages (Spanish and English) both in the UK and abroad. Throughout her teaching career she has designed and delivered language and IT courses at various levels for a wide range of ages from primary school children to mature learners. She is an enthusiastic, motivated, qualified tutor, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. She is focussed and dedicated to ensuring that students reach their full potential and enjoy their learning experience
How will I be taught?
You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups or pairs. This allows the tutor to attend to individual needs as well as to direct the learning of the group as a whole. Homework will be an essential part of the course.
An individual learning plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor. You will have tutorials with your tutor when you will be able to discuss your progress.
Additionally, your work will be regularly marked by your tutor who will give you oral/written feedback.
What do I need to bring with me?
Dictionary, ring-binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen.
What can I do next?
You can progress onto an ESOL Entry 1 course.
