This online course is for mothers, fathers and carers with children aged 5 to 11 years.
Family Learning courses are engagement courses, helping families move back into learning. All the courses are FREE. Learners can attend up to two Wider Family Learning (WFL) and Parenting courses from August 1st 2020, and can then progress onto a Family English, Maths and Language course. Priority for places is given to new learners.

It is designed to:
Encourage adults to look at the food they eat and try new ideas and recipes which can be incorporated into an affordable, healthy, balanced family diet.
It includes planning, preparing and cooking a variety of food to be shared with children after each session. The course aims are to build confidence in cooking as well as embedding practical maths and English skills.
This online course is designed so that outside of the taught session, parents can jointly cook the dish with their children and report back to the tutor at the next session.
Content will include all/some of the following:
• Cook a variety of affordable, healthy foods and share with your child
• Use the ‘Eatwell Plate’ to learn about food groups and work towards a balanced diet
• Follow and adapt child friendly recipes- reading, writing and ratios
• Use metric and imperial measures and conversion tables when shopping and preparing food alone and with your child
• Increase safety awareness inside & outside the home with food preparation, storage & cooking
• Compile ideas for healthy breakfasts, lunches & snacks
• Create a 5 a day meal planner and shopping list to suit budget and family lifestyles
• Read and understand food labels/tables in relation to Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs) for men, women and children
• Try new foods and discuss likes/dislikes
