This course is perfect for complete beginners who wish to learn the basics principles of floristry.
We will cover conditioning of your flowers, how to wet foam, how to attach it to different vessels, how to design a hand tied bouquet, button hole, posy styles and much more. This course canl lead on to an intermediate course for those wishing to learn more.
Each week you will produce a flower arrangement in a different style.
By the end of the course you should be able to:-
- create a variety of differing styles of floral arrangements using fresh flowers and foliage
- confidently apply floristry techniques to an appropriate level
- understand the care and conditioning needs of a variety of plant material
- show a knowledge and understanding about seasonal plant material
- demonstrate an awareness of basic design and colour theory
Homework is not a requirement of the course, but you will need to source flowers for your class each week.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Jackie Brooks
Jackie Brooks is a very experienced teacher of Floristry and also runs her own floristry business. She specialises in contemporary and modern styles.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
What do I need to bring with me?
For the first session you will need:
- 5/6 Roses or Iris or Carnations
- 5/6 leaves about the size of the palm of your hand
- Handful of small leaf foliage
- Florist Foam, (Oasis)
- Low small dish or saucer
- Scissors
- Pen
- Notebook
You will be advised each week on the following week's project and what you will need.
What can I do next?
Students can progress onto the intermediate floristry course and from there to higher level accredited floristry courses and professional practice. The tutor will be able to give you more detailed advice.
What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome to join this course., This course is suitable for the complete novice and would be perfect for those who are interested in floristry, perhaps thinking of a career move, but do not want to commit to a full time course. It would be equally suitable for those just wanting to have the confidence to design flowers for friends and family and wanting to extend their knowledge of floristry beyond flower arranging.
