A range of different topics will be introduced from everyday life and daily news using articles from TV, radio, Internet, magazines and newspapers covering topics such as: education, environment, media, leisure and tourism, sport, art and culture, etc. Suggestions and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the course. You will develop language accuracy and fluency in a range of topics at a more complex level and increase your confidence in applying the present, past and future tenses. Grammar will bridge gaps in knowledge.

By the end of the course successful students should be able to:
- communicate on a wide range of topics and be able to extract detailed information from various sources
- cover topics of a familiar/unfamiliar nature with the help of a dictionary
- exchange views confidently on a range of topical subjects, taking part confidently in a discussion with native speakers with a near native command of the language
- use language, vocabulary, idiomatic and colloquial expressions appropriate to the formality of the situation and subject and to the context and culture
- Obtain information, ideas and opinions from a variety of sources and extract required details fully and accurately
- use written texts for a variety of purposes to stimulate conversation.
You will revise and expand previously studied grammar including present and past tenses (perfect/imperfect/pluperfect), future tense, conditional/subjunctive mood in set phrases, relative clauses and pronouns. You will also gain an insight into the culture of the country where the language is spoken.

How will I be taught?

The emphasis is on oral communication (speaking and listening) but some reading and writing will also be included. The course will be conducted in the foreign language. A variety of teaching strategies will be used. Learner participation will be through individual, pair and group work. Cassettes/CDs and videos/DVDs may be used. Initial assessment is carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point is recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets are set to aid development of the skill. These are revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

The appropriate follow on course is another Advanced course at a higher level or another Advanced Conversation course. The tutor will be able to advise or please check our range of courses at
