Are you near fluent in French? Do want to maintain your level and develop aspects of your conversational skills and gain a deeper cultural understanding? This Advanced Plus course is for you. , , You will benefit from exchanging in a classroom with your supportive tutor and other students as you practise speaking in French with a very near-native degree of fluency and accuracy and enjoying learning the language. , After completing the course successful students should be able to:, • Exchange views confidently with a near native command of the language on a range of topical subjects., • Use language, vocabulary, idiomatic and colloquial expressions appropriate to the formality of the situation and subject, and to the context and culture. , • Obtain information, ideas and opinions from a variety of sources. Extract required details fully and accurately, • If appropriate, produce written texts for a variety of purposes. Modify language to communicate in ways appropriate to the context and relationship between writer and reader., Grammar will bridge gaps in knowledge. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour suggested) each week to reinforce classroom learning.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Marjory Hardy King
Marjory is a native French speaker with a long experience of teaching.
Our Language tutors are either native speakers or have native-speaker fluency in the language they teach. They have specialist qualifications and experience in teaching a foreign language to adults and all have experience of living in the country of the language they teach.
How will I be taught?
The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (ex role-play and games). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning., Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. You will record your starting point on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and set targets. You will revisit regularly during the course to monitor and record your progress. Tutors will feedback orally on homework.
What do I need to bring with me?
The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Although this is a conversation-based course, you may want to bring a pen and paper and dictionary, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.,
What can I do next?
There is a short “Advanced Plus - Summer School” to follow-up and reinforce learning. After this, students can continue to develop their skills in another Advanced Plus course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.,
What do I need to join the course
For anyone who has completed a French Advanced course or has studied the language at degree level or have spent an extended period of time in the country. The course will suit the students who can converse easily in all situations, with a good knowledge of grammar, the main tenses and structure of the language but need to continue to improve in fluency and accuracy to a native level in pronunciation/intonation, choice of vocabulary, grammar as well as idiomatic/colloquial expressions with conversation practice. , If you are unsure, please carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk or in our Centres.
