This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
Join us to discover more about French literature. We meet monthly to discuss a chosen book in our course French Reading for Pleasure - Atelier de lecture. Books will be classics as well as more contemporary works. Students will be encouraged to suggest books which we might read and enjoy together.
By the end of the course, successful students will
- have developed satisfaction in reading in French
- have increased their bank of vocabulary and expressions
- have bridged grammar gaps
- have extended their knowledge of the French written world in relation to texts studied
- have exchanged information, discussed ideas related to the texts (content, bio, context and culture)
Dates for the meetings:
07/11 05/12 16/01 13/02 13/03 17/04 15/05
How will I be taught?
We will read the texts (short books or extracts) in our own time. Monthly meetings allow plenty of time between classes. We will discuss the texts in class, mostly in French and develop skills to develop appreciation of works written in French.
This course does not lead to any formal qualification, so there is no pressure on you to complete assessments or to take exams. Tutors will assess you informally during the class and use the Individual Learning Plans for constructive feedback.
What do I need to have with me?
We expect to read a total of five books or texts, of manageable size. Students who own an E-reader may be able to read some books electronically if they prefer. Students should bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts. There will be no need to purchase a text before the first session.
If the group decides to study books that are not yet in the Public Domain, students will have to arrange to pay the charge to access these books. This will be discussed in the first class.
What can I do next?
As the Atelier de lecture will look at different texts, you can come back to the course term and again.
