A continuation furniture restoration course for students to develop restoration skills and work on a small project of their own choice. It is suitable for students of all levels of ability and experience including complete beginners. Students will work primarily on their own projects at their own speed with guidance and support. Aside from individual learning activities the course will include introductory experience of French polishing, veneering, matching antique surfaces, elements of design style, wood recognition, dealing with holes and gas, reproducing missing mouldings and carvings, casting plaster resin, using tools and structural repairs.

About the Tutor: Kim Woodward
Kim Woodward is an experienced cabinet maker and has been teaching in the FE/HE sector for the past 12 years, covering a range of subjects which have included Carpentry and Joinery, Antique/Furniture Restoration, Art and Design and BTEC
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.

What do I need to bring with me?
The student will need to bring a small item of furniture that needs restoration. Due to short term storage difficulties, it is advisable that students discuss proposed projects with the tutor before term begins.
What can I do next?
Studio Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the craft and also to support application to Access to Art and Degree Foundation courses or relevant Craft, Art and Design Degree courses.

Everyone is welcome to join
The course will be suitable for students of all levels of ability and experience including complete beginners. The course requires a certain level of manual dexterity.
