This course will be held at Ashford Adult Education Centre, Ashford Gateway, Church Road, Ashford TN23 1AS

This a day of exploring the range of properties of this medium, allowing you to discover ways to improve your ability to produce finer detail using botanical images. As well as small marks you will find that gouache is a very adaptable medium and you will cover a wide range of mark making resulting in a reference sheet and a painting.

After sharing your own work with your fellow students, the class will make a reference sheet of marks before starting on their main painting focusing on the still life (plant) set out before them.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Helen Easter

Helen is an experienced tutor who has been teaching for 27 years. She delivers courses on painting and drawing, printmaking, papier mache, paper pots. Her main work entails images mixed with the abstract and she uses methods and techniques in all mediums. Helen has exhibited and sold her work in galleries in the UK and abroad. Her paintings have been used for book covers and greeting cards. She is involved with the British Fencing Association where her fencing images have been used for prizes; she also does commissions from fencers and was featured in The Sword magazine in January 2013. She has designed murals for Kent Children Libraries and has curated shows for Shepway council and Metropole Galleries which were featured in the Sunday Times as best shows outside London. How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.

What do I need to bring with me?

For this course please bring with you:-

- Botanical ultra-smooth paper (this may be available to purchase on the day)
- Brushes. Watercolour nylon size 0. 1. 2. with good point.
- Propelling pencil
- Coloured pencils (if you have them)

All are welcome. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
