In this course we consider German between the wars and the Rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party during this period. What were the circumstances that coincided with the rise to power of the most notorious dictator in history and ultimately led to World War Two? We shall consider the interaction between national/international factors, social/economic factors and the individual obsessions of the Nazi Leader himself.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
• Describe and discuss the growth of the Nazi Party during the 1920s.
• Analyse how Hitler the Chancellor consolidated his power from 1933 and became Hitler the Fuhrer
• Consider the lessons of Hitler’s rise to power for us today?
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Mark Gorringe
Mark Gorringe is a graduate teacher of history with a particular interest in social and cultural history during the early aprt of the twentieth century. In addition to his teaching, he works for the Natioanl Trust as a lead steward at Chartwell.
How will I be taught?
A variety of teaching and learning methods shall be utilised, with emphasis on source materials, video and group discussion

Please bring a pen and some lined paper for any notes. Handouts will be provided.
