This course will take place at Corpus Christi Church - Fisher Hall, Lyons Crescent Tonbridge TN91EY.

Practising yoga regularly can help you: maintain and/or increase flexibility and mobility; increase your energy levels; improve your balance; improve your strength; tone your body; cope better with stress; focus your mind; relax.
We will cover basic yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation. Beginners will become familiar with poses and their benefits, and more experienced students will be able to develop their yoga practice. Students will be encouraged to practise at home using the postures and breathing techniques they learn, in order to maximise the benefits. Your teacher will modify the postures as applicable to your needs and you will learn how to do this safely for yourself.

About the Tutor: Jane Collins

Jane has been practising Yoga for over 15 years and qualified in 2012 as an Iyengar teacher after 3 years intensive training. She taught a beginners’ class in Tunbridge Wells in 2013 and has covered for other teachers. She is a school teacher and also enjoys introducing her students to the benefits of Yoga.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a qualified and experienced yoga teacher. Teaching methods will include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for questions. Your teacher will demonstrate and talk you through all postures and sequences. Activities will be adapted to suit individual needs and capabilities. You will be observed to make sure that you are practising safely, and be encouraged to monitor and record your own progress.
Your tutor will give feedback and you will be asked to participate in monitoring and recording your own learning.

What do I need to have with me?

You will need to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily for example, jogging trousers or leggings and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Formal trousers, tight jeans, skirts and dresses are not suitable for yoga. We usually practise with bare feet or wearing socks, so please let your tutor know if this is likely to be a problem for you. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately. Students need to bring a mat to work on, and may wish to bring a blanket for extra comfort during relaxation. You may like to bring a bottle of water and are advised to avoid eating much for 1½ hours before exercising.

What do I need to join the course

There are no formal entry qualifications.
Students of all ages and at all levels are welcome to join this course – both beginners and those with some experience of yoga. Pregnant students should not attend classes until they are at least 14 weeks pregnant, and we would recommend that you attend a yoga course specifically designed for pregnant women. We advise anyone with a pre-existing medical condition to seek advice from their GP before exercising.
