In this short course you will explore general aspects of Japanese culture and have the opportunity to experience some Japanese traditions.
The tutor will demonstrate how to wear yukata (casual type of kimono) and during the lesson break the tutor will also show how to serve green tea.
By the end of the course you will be able
To use Greetings in Japanese and know the etiquette
To demonstrate knowledge of the history of the traditional Japanese form of clothing, the kimono and how to wear it
To write your name in Japanese, with the option of using a brush pen.
To complete a paper art work using washi paper, the colourful and pretty Japanese paper.

Tools and materials will be provided by the tutor.
However if you want to use a brush pen please bring it with you.
If you own a Yukata kimono and want to wear it please bring along.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Naoko Munro

Naoko is a native Japanese speaker. She has been teaching Japanese in a Japanese school for three years in England and helping teach Japanese to adults and young people for over five years. She has experience as a private tutor teaching other subjects in Japan. She has also been working as a Japanese- English translator

She creates an environment where the students are encouraged to speak Japanese and she believes that learning Japanese should be fun and enjoyable.

How will I be taught?

. The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities as and when required.
The tutor will give feedback throughout the session.

What do I need to bring with me?

Tools and materials will be provided by the tutor.
However if you want to use a brush pen please bring it with you.
If you own a Yukata kimono and want to wear it please bring along.
You may want to bring a pen and notepad for personal notes and a folder to take your work with you at the end of the session.

This Introductory course is for students with no previous knowledge.
