Latin Beginners Module B -
Latin? Whether you are interested in botanical plant names, or church inscriptions, and even Latin according to Harry Potter, or wanting to read latin classics, this Latin Module A course will help you to study the language for your personal interest. The course will enable both beginners to start to read and enjoy Latin and more experienced students to develop their skills and tackle more complex pieces including original Latin texts. Each lesson also includes a section on an aspect of Roman history, life and culture, an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas in a friendly and supportive group.
By the end of the course, successful students will be able to
- identify the vocabulary of the topics studied
- offer a basic version of the texts provided
- write a selection of sentences on the topics studied
- apprehend the basics of latin grammar at their appropriate levels
- explain in English the main aspects of history and culture studied
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Selene Genovesi
Selene has a Bachelor Degree in Modern Languages and Literature and an MA in Literary Translation.
She has always had a great passion for all literatures and has started studying (and then teaching) languages to be able to read more books!
She is currently member of many “borderless” clubs in English and Italian, devouring classic and contemporary titles, as well as being an avid reader of Literary Criticism magazines and blogs online.
How will I be taught?
Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources. Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time and at the end of the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.
What do I need to have with me?
The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.
