This is a comprehensive structured course to develop your sewing machine skills as well as increasing awareness of the full potential of your sewing machine.
A range of stitches, threads, needles, fabrics and basic attachments will be shown as you use your machine to make a variety of samples and learn new techniques. These skills can then can be used on a variety of sewing courses including Learn to Sew, Soft or Home Furnishings courses.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Carole Barter
Carole has experience in a prestigious soft furnishing workshop and has worked with a large number of private customers. She has City and Guilds qualifications in Soft Furnishing, Interior Design and Embroidery and has taught for Kent Adult Education for 30 years.
How will I be taught?
This course will be taught as a group using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instruction, one to one guidance, and group discussions. In addition to this you will receive one to one support and feedback during each lesson.
What do I need to have with me?
Please bring a basic sewing kit [pins, thread, scissors, tape measure etc] as well as notebook and pencil. If possible please bring your sewing machine [ and instruction book] but there will be machines at the centre for you to use if this is not convenient. Basic cotton fabric will be available on the day to use provided by the tutor.

What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome on the course, just an enthusiasm to learn new sewing skills whilst using your machine. This course is suitable for anyone who has bought a sewing machine and wishes to develop their full potential when using it.
It is important to note that Craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Before the lesson, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click. The system is free and easy to use.
