This course will explore ways in which you can reduce the footprint of your floral creations. You will look at ways to ethically source materials and work with seasonal flowers to create modern bouquets and arrangements with the impact on the environment in mind.
A useful start for anyone wanting to work in a florists or set up as a freelance florist.
By the end of this course most students will be able to -
Identify 4 flowers seasonal to September and October in the UK
Explain how to substitute 2 single use resources for sustainable options
Demonstrate how to construct a bouquet using environmentally friendly wrapping
Demonstrate how to create a table arrangement using seasonal flowers
Explain the health and safety considerations of the tools you have used

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Linda Barton
Linda has worked in the floristry industry for 35 years having her own florist shop in London for 30 years.She holds her ICSF in floristry and Cert Ed qualifications. She starting her teaching career 10 years ago and enjoys passing on her knowledge to students. A typical comment from a student is: "Really great fun and I learned lots. Super tutor. Thanks."
How will I be taught?
At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out your prior learning and what you want to achieve by the end of the course alongside the learning outcomes listed above. It is vital that you engage with this process to successfully achieve the outcomes and complete the course.
You will complete tasks and assignments according to the course syllabus to successfully achieve the outcomes, with guidance from the tutor.
You will receive initial and ongoing feedback from your tutor. It is key that you also monitor and assess your progress throughout the course, to ensure your learning needs are being met and course and personal outcomes are being achieved.
There is no final exam for this course, level 1 certification is awarded on achievement of the course outcomes listed above.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring a notebook and pen, the tutor will contact you to advise you what to bring at the first session, please make sure we have your current email address.
It would be useful to have a camera or a phone or tablet with a camera to photograph your work to record your progress and begin to build a portfolio.
The cost of resources will be £10-£15 per week, sometimes less depending on the flowers that you use.
What can I do next?
Further creative craft qualifications in further or higher education, your tutor will be able to advise you. The NCFE Level 2 Award in Creative Craft - Floristry would be a good next step to work in a Florists or set yourself up as an independent Florist running a small business from home.
What do I need to join the course
This course is suitable for anyone interested in eco friendly flower arranging, no experience is necessary. A degree of manual dexterity is required.
