During this festive course you will use a short cut machine technique to produce a Sawtooth Star block. This block will then be used to make table mats and table runner as you prefer. Subjects covered will include purchasing and using specialist rotary cutters, cutting mats and rulers, using the block to make a quilt and a variation to make an Amish style wall hanging.

Carole has experience in a prestigious soft furnishing workshop and has worked with a large number of private customers. She has City and Guilds qualifications in Soft Furnishing, Interior Design and Embroidery and has taught for Kent Adult Education for 30 years.
How will I be taught?
Craft courses provide an opportunity for you to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.
What do I need to have with me?
A basic sewing kit is essential. This should include sharp pins, needles, sharp dressmaking scissors, small sharp embroidery scissors and non-permanent fabric marker plus some all-purpose sewing thread. For machine techniques, a fully functioning electric sewing machine with pedal, power cable, bobbins and basic feet (the machine manual will be essential plus a cutting mat, rotary cutter and quilting ruler if you have them. You will also need two contrasting Seasonal fabrics (three if you would like a co-ordinating binding and lining) Quantities will depend on how many mats/how long a runner you wish to make. Each star block needs sufficient fabric to cut 1 x 5 ½” square and 4x 3 3/8” squares of star fabric plus 1 x 6 ¼” square and 4 x 3” squares of background fabric. Extra fabric will be needed to extend the blocks into rectangular placemats and runner.

These courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the craft with KAE ore other related Craft course such as Quilting or Applique.
