What do I need to have with me?

A basic sewing kit is essential. This should include sharp pins, needles, sharp dressmaking scissors, small sharp embroidery scissors and non-permanent fabric marker plus some all-purpose sewing thread. For machine techniques, a fully functioning electric sewing machine with pedal, power cable, bobbins and basic feet (the machine manual will be essential plus a cutting mat, rotary cutter and quilting ruler if you have them. You will also need two contrasting Seasonal fabrics (three if you would like a co-ordinating binding and lining) Quantities will depend on how many mats/how long a runner you wish to make. Each star block needs sufficient fabric to cut 1 x 5 ½” square and 4x 3 3/8” squares of star fabric plus 1 x 6 ¼” square and 4 x 3” squares of background fabric. Extra fabric will be needed to extend the blocks into rectangular placemats and runner.
