This course allows you to develop skills and techniques and an understanding of watercolour painting. The course takes a methodical, structured approach to teaching the elements of painting and drawing, through projects that explore a particular aspect of technique or genre, step by step.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
Demonstrate and understand relevant techniques .
Demonstrate successful use of relevant tools, equipment and resources
Use appropriate methods to collect ideas, research and experimentation
Successfully review and evaluate your own work
Research and evaluate the work of others to inform your own work and development
There is no set homework, but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home to support your work completed on the course.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
What do I need to bring with me?
You should have an A3 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

What do I need to join the course
All students are welcome to join the course who need a beginners experience in Watercolour. Please contact one of the Arts team who will be able to make sure this is the right course for you
