About this course

Learn how to make your own clothes. With guidance from the tutor, you will work at your own pace on your chosen garment, gaining the skills and confidence to make clothes from start to finish. You will learn a variety of methods used in clothesmaking. Each student will make at least one wearable garment.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Select and use appropriate settings on a sewing machine.
- Sew and neaten a seam.
- Use sewing techniques as required by your garment pattern.
- Use tools and equipment safely

There is no set ‘homework’, but to get the most out of the course, you are welcome to do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

There will be demonstrations, individual and group tuition and feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your sewing machine; there are some sewing machines at the Centre, but it is best that you get used to using your own. You will need to supply your own materials: please bring along scissors, tape measure, pins, pattern, fabric, threads, interfacings, etc.

What can I do next?

Further sewing or textiles courses with KAE.

What do I need to join the course

Beginners and those with a little experience. It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak to the Programme Manager before you enrol.
