How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical scribes and calligraphers and you will keep a portfolio, workbook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance personal skills.
You will receive one to one feedback throughout your course.
What do I need to bring with me?
Materials are not included in your course fee. Your first calligraphy pen and paper will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £5, payable to the tutor at your first session. We do not have the facilities to take card payments in the classes. Please remember to bring cash in a named envelope to ease the payment process. All students should bring to the first session: a ball point pen, reading glasses if you use them, £5 in a named envelope for your first calligraphy pen & paper. During the first session, your tutor will explain what equipment and materials you will need to buy to progress. If you have done some calligraphy before, please bring your usual equipment to the first session.
Please do not buy any materials before the first session.
What can I do next?
A further 10 week course, where you will learn to write a new calligraphic basic script with dip pens in different sizes, filled with coloured ink and paint and where you will pick up new ideas for your calligraphic projects.
