About this course

The Special Operations Executive was formed in 1940 to co-ordinate espionage and sabotage across occupied Europe and to facilitate British co-operation with European resistance fighters. Sometimes known as ‘Churchill’s Secret Army’, the SOE enlisted 55 female agents, 13 of whom were killed in action or in Nazi death camps. This course will give you the opportunity to learn about some of these women and the remarkable contributions they made to the Allied war effort.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Place the work of the SOE unit in the wider context of British history
• Name a number of Special Operations Executive officers
• Describe a number of the campaigns undertaken by agents of the SOE
