How will I be taught?
The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some simple reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Chinese culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set targets. This will be revisited regularly during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.
What do I need to bring with me?
The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.
What can I do next?
There is a short “Chinese Mandarin - Summer School for all levels” to follow-up and reinforce learning. After this, the next appropriate follow-on course could be an Intermediate course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
What do I need to join the course
For anybody who is looking to improve the practical speaking and listening skills needed to cope with simple day to day scenarios when travelling and socialising in China.
This course follows on from our Chinese Mandarin Beginners. Students need to have completed one of our Beginners courses or have learnt basic Chinese Mandarin in the past. Students should be able to use simple phrases or words such as greetings, asking for and giving simple personal information, ordering food and drink, using writing and grammar at Beginners level.
