About this course

The course is designed for those interested in Drama and the business of communication. This course, Develop Confidence through Drama, will encourage you to extend command of the role in order to interact effectively with the Group Dynamic. You will explore a wide range of scenario/mode/roles through improvisation, learn about Stanislavski's ideas for indepth understanding of "communion" in the Drama. Creative thinking, assertiveness training with group support will be developed. Ongoing session in voice, movement, and the study of Dramatic texts with the focus on Modern Drama will extend your ability to participate more effectively, professionally and socially in the workplace

By the end of the course, successful students will
-Present themselves effectively using voice and movement to communicate to an audience
-"Think on their feet" to interact fully in a group setting, using the requested language register and style to an audience
-Use a wide range of role play for ease of social interaction
-Access creative imagination in spontaneous improvisation, using language with confidence and fluency to express imaginative ideas
- Use a variety of modes and genres to facilitate oral communication in the professional context
-gain a solid knowledge of convention and school of thought, dramatic texts for educational enrichment

How will I be taught?

You will be taught individually, in small and larger groups. You will participate in communication exercises, role plays using texts, group dynamic techniques and improvisation.

Your starting point at the beginning of the course will be recorded on your Learning plan (ILP) with the help of your tutor. Your developments and progresses throughout the sessions will be discussed and assessed on the plan to help you gauge your achievements.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please wear soft shoes and loose comfortable clothing. It is useful to ring pen and notepad to each session.

What do I need to join the course

The course is for anyone who wishes to develop assertiveness, communication, presentations to become more effective in the workplace.
Former learners included for example Teachers, Trainee Teachers, Drama students, actors, business staff, social workers, youth workers, nurses, writers and other students attending to develop personally and socially.

No formal qualification is necessary, both beginners and experienced students with an interest in Drama and an ability to communicate are welcome.

If they wish (this is optional), students are encouraged to go to the theatre to see contemporary productions, for example "Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams and Prietsly's "An inspector Calls"

About the Tutor: Jane Billett

Jane is a widely experienced Theatre Course facilitator who has studied Speech & Drama at the Central School of Speech & Drama, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art & the “National”. Her teaching is informed by her experience as a Drama Director of her own Theatre Company. She has taught in theatres and colleges at many levels ranging from Primary/Secondary, Youth Theatre, Adults, to mentoring B.A. students. She has directed fringe theatre performances in London, for example, the Finborough, the Jermyn St. Theatre, the New End Theatre in Hampstead.
