How will I be taught?

Our art courses provide an opportunity for you to learn and develop, skills, techniques and to acquire an understanding of the subject. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instructions, one to one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. This course will require you, with assistance from your tutor, to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) as a self-assessment. As a starting point, all Creative ILPs contain the following Learning Outcomes:

- Successfully demonstrate techniques/skills relevant to the subject
- Competent application of techniques/skills
- Use work of others to inspire own work
- Demonstrate an understanding of Health and Safety relevant to the subject

These outcomes will be the base of all learning. Other, personal Learning Outcomes can be negotiated with your tutor to better tailor the ILP to meet individual needs.

Students will keep a sketchbook/notebook to record goals, ideas, processes and progress and are likely to view the work of other artists both contemporary and historical. It is important to note that art courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. Students will need to participate fully to get the most from the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please wear old clothes and shoes. All work is paid for by fired weight at a reasonable rate. Health and safety issues will be discussed and you will be instructed in the application of safe working practices. Basic equipment will be provided but you may want to build up your own selection of tools as you progress.

What can I do next?

About the Tutor: Claire Griffiths

Claire Griffiths graduated in 1986 from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, where she gained a BA Hons in Ceramics. She continued to make one off sculptural ceramics, selling my work in exhibitions and galleries in London including Blackheath Gallery and selling work from a stall in Greenwich Market. She was involved with The Lewisham Art House studios and taught pottery for a variety of groups with Greenwich Community College for ten years before moving to Whitstable. Whilst working at Mid Kent College, she became interested in Fine Art through teaching A Level Art and Design. This inspired her to return to study and gain an MA in Fine Art. She very much enjoys to teaching adults once again as well as making and selling her own work.
