This Lipreading course in Snodland is for anybody who has an acquired hearing loss and wants to learn to communicate better in general conversation with family, friends and colleagues.

By the end of the course, successful students will be able to:

- recognise visible consonant lip shapes, long vowels and double vowels and cope with
non-visible sounds,
- use body language and facial expressions to assist lipreading,
- use fingerspelling to aid lipreading,
- recognise good conditions and helpful tactics for lipreading - seating, lighting etc,
- acquire and access information about assistive equipment available for home/office and about

How will I be taught?

Whole and small group teaching - a little theory to help you understand, a lot of practical exercises to improve your skills; activities to improve your observation so that you can fill in the gaps in what you hear; stories and articles to improve your concentration; topics of interest to keep you up to date; and occasional games to make it fun.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress.

What do I need to bring with me?

A folder for your notes, notebook/paper, pen/pencil, glasses if worn, hearing aid if worn plus spare batteries.

What can I do next?

Students can progress to Lipreading - Intermediate and Advanced classes or continue to attend a Lipreading - All levels course.
