About this course

This Active for Life Pay As You Go Body Tone class in Broadstairs has been designed for the active, older adult, but is open to anyone who would like to improve their fitness and health and enjoys group exercise classes.

This is a low to medium impact cardio class, using resistance equipment to tone and sculpt your body and includes floor based strength and flexibility exercises.

During the sessions you will be able to:
- Use basic resistance equipment safely
- Perform muscle, strength and endurance exercises
- Locate muscle groups
- Practise cardiovascular moves
- Exercise independently to music with minimal guidance
- Identify specific exercises for personal use outside of the class.
- Recount at least three ways in which exercises can benefit health and wellbeing throughout various life stages.

You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. Although there is no specific work set outside of the class, students will gain most benefit if exercises are performed regularly and practised between classes.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a qualified fitness instructor. Teaching methods will include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all sequences. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely and be encouraged to monitor and record your progression on the course using a Personal Fitness Log or Learning Diary.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. Your progress will be monitored through a Learning record and your own personal learning diary or fitness log.
