About this course

This Textile course will introduce you to some of the thousands of needlepoint stitches and offer you the opportunity to create a small needlepoint panel from your work. No previous knowledge of stitching is required as you will be given full instructions to create an attractive needlepoint sampler.
By the end of this course you should be able to
• Describe the technique of needlepoint
• Prepare a canvas for needlepoint work
• Produce a number of needlepoint stitches including some or all of: tent stich, Hungarian stitches; arrowhead stitch; Byzantine stitch; chevron stitch

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for you to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will be required to provide sufficient materials for their own project; your tutor will give advice on this in the first session. You will also need to bring a basic sewing kit, notepad and pencil.

What can I do next?

These courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the craft with KAE ore other related Craft course such as Quilting or Applique.

What do I need to join the course

An interest in Needlepoint and a desire to learn the stitches to use to decorate objects and clothing in your home.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.

About the Tutor: Naomi Louise Dickins

Naomi Dickins graduated from the University of Bristol with a B.A. (Hons) in History and also has an Advanced Diploma in Local Historical Studies from the University of Oxford. She has worked as an archivist, historical researcher and lecturer and recently published a history of Tenterden with Amberley Books. Naomi also has a lifelong love of textile and needle crafts, is an embroidery artist, runs textiles workshops and is a designer for Practical Publishing craft magazines.
