About this course

This Psychology of Crime course in Canterbury is a short introduction to criminological psychology and will consider current approaches to understanding crime and its causation. The course will examine psychological theories behind criminal behaviour and will include: the relationship between personality and criminality, crime and gender, antisocial personality disorder, punitive prison regimes, treatment programmes and the social causes of crime.

There is no additional work between course hours.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

Our tutors are very experienced in their field, are trained to teach adults and are committed to ensuring that students enjoy their courses with Kent Adult Education. Each tutor strives to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere where students can work at an appropriate pace. Teaching methods are varied, and incorporate many styles including group work, pair work, some individual work and in some cases self study. At the start of the course you will be asked to fill in a form about your current knowledge and understanding of psychology. This is an introductory course, so you are not expected to bring any knowledge, but we will be interested to find out how much you have gained from the course by the end.

What do I need to bring with me?

Pen, paper and folder. We advise students not to purchase equipment, books or materials until after the first session of the course unless otherwise stated.
