About this course

This course is designed for Counsellors or student Counsellors or health practitioners who want to learn more about supporting clients who have suffered from trauma or PTSD.

By the end of the course students will:
• be able to recognise the symptoms of trauma and PTSD
• know what causes PTSD
• know what happens in the brain during a traumatic incident
• have learnt practical interventions when working with this client group
• understand the issue of forgiveness
• know how to keep safe as a Counsellor working with this client group

How will I be taught?

The course will consist of a mixture of tutor input, group activities and discussion. The emphasis will be on participation and sharing of ideas. If you have a disability and think it may affect your learning in the classroom, or using any of our other services, please speak to us in confidence as soon as possible. We will discuss options with you and do our best to provide the support you would like.

At the start of the course you will be asked to fill in a form about your current knowledge and understanding of the subject. This is an introductory course, so you are not expected to bring any knowledge, but we will be interested to find out how much you have gained from the course by the end.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a notepad and pen.

What can I do next?
