About this course

Are you new to bookkeeping, or do you already work in accounting or wish to develop your business support skills? Then this 'AAT Award - Excel - Computerised Accounting Level 1' course in Sittingbourne is for you.

The course will introduce you to bookkeeping practice. It aims to provide you with a fundamental understanding of the principles of double entry bookkeeping in the context of a computerised process using Microsoft Excel software.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

- Check and process documents involved in financial record keeping
- Prepare statements as a preliminary to financial control

**PLEASE NOTE: Successfully completing this course is a mandatory AAT requirement for those wishing to gain a certificate in the 'AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1' and the 'AAT Award in Computerised Accounting Level 1'.**

**PLEASE NOTE: You must pay a £43 membership fee directly to AAT in order to register for their exams. You can do this once the course has started. The membership fee covers a one year period and can be paid once the course has started. The membership fee covers the registration of all AAT exams taken within a 12 month period. Membership provides you with access to online learning materials which will support you with your study and a monthly magazine.**

**PLEASE NOTE: As this is an accredited course, regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2.5 hours of home study per week are required from you when enrolling on this course. You may be removed from the course if you do not regularly attend. You are advised to read the course syllabus on the AAT website prior to enrolling on the course.**

How will I be taught?

The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere with students who attend regularly and complete home study as required. Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to support you in achieving your goals. Your individual needs will be taken into consideration.

Throughout the course, your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress towards the requirements of the qualification. You will be provided with relevant textbooks to support your study.

The course will be formally assessed by separate AAT assessments including the an assessment on the 'AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1' course and/or the 'AAT Award - Sage - Computerised Accounting Level 1' course which you are required to enrol on in order to achieve the AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

You will need a calculator (not one built into a mobile phone), a notebook, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, highlighter and correction fluid or tape. Please also bring a pen, notepad and a ring binder for notes and handouts.

What can I do next?

This course can enable you to progress onto the 'AAT Award - Sage - Computerised Accounting Level 1' course. This course will enable you to apply your double-entry spreadsheet skills into a computerised accounts process.

In addition, this course can enable you to progress onto a Level 2 qualification such as the 'AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping Level 2' course. What do I need to join the course

Students interested in the AAT courses will be required to take two assessments prior to enrolling on the course, to ensure that this is the most suitable course for you. You can contact a local adult education centre and arrange an appointment to complete a literacy and a numeracy assessment at the centre.

You will need basic computing skills to attend this course and some basic knowledge of spreadsheets. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/activities and take part in group discussions.

This course is aimed at those who are new to the skills and knowledge required of bookkeepers. It is suitable for students studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping roles and for those who are already employed in bookkeeping and/or data processing roles.

Before setting up businesses of her own, Lin’s former career has been in sales, and latterly she was a sales & marketing director for a large multi-national company, so she brings to her teaching extensive business knowledge and technical expertise.

Together with her teaching, Lin also runs her own business providing accounting, bookkeeping, training and business services to several companies which means that her practice and expertise is completely up to date.

Lin has been teaching Accounting & Bookkeeping, Payroll and ICT for 10 years and has a DTTLS teaching qualification.
