About this course

This course is for students who may have completed Entry level 1 or have some reading and writing from beginners level. Students will continue to develop their reading and writing skills for every day use, work or help young children with homework.
You will learn practical English for everyday life and for working in the UK and you will make progress with the elementary grammar of English. Speaking, listening, reading and writing are all included, with special emphasis on reading and writing.

How will I be taught?

You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups or pairs. This allows the tutor to attend to individual needs as well as to direct the learning of the group as a whole. Homework will be an essential part of the course.

An individual learning plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor. You will have tutorials with your tutor when you will be able to discuss your progress.

Additionally, your work will be regularly marked by your tutor who will give you oral/written feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Dictionary, ring binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen.

What can I do next?

Learners can progress to ESOL next level. For further information, you can email us at: learnEnglish@kent.gov.uk

What do I need to join the course

ESOL courses are available for European Union citizens and those who have lived in the UK for at least three years. Other students are also welcome upon payment of an overseas fee. However, acceptance on a Skills Plus ESOL course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.
Before enrolling on an ESOL course you will need to complete an initial assessment. Please book an interview at your local centre.
We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible and therefore regret that we cannot return payments to students who withdraw from a course. When you enrol, please understand that you are agreeing to pay the total price for the whole course, including all outstanding balances should you withdraw.
