About this course

Planning a holiday to Italy soon? If you are visiting Italy in the near future or want to grasp a little Italian lingo this 2 day Italian - basics in Canterbury is the course for you.

This 8 hour course aims to give students enough essential travel phrases to get by on a visit but will remain fairly basic.

By the end of the course successful students should be able to:
- give and receive basic greetings and personal information
- tell the time and use numbers and currency
- order and pay for food and drink in a restaurant or cafe
- purchase items in shops asking for price, weight etc
- ask for and use directions
- request and understand basic travel information

Basic Italian grammar will be taught and students will also gain an insight into the culture.
You will be given small amounts of homework each week (max 1hr) to reinforce classroom learning.

Each day runs from 10.30 to 15.30 with 4 hours of teaching and 1 extra hour allocated for breaks and lunch.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Italian culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide and opportunity for self study including the use of on-line resources.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

The appropriate follow-on course is a longer Beginners course. The tutor or the Curriculum Leader will be able to advise or check
