About this course

This one-day course introduces you to the basics of editing movies, using Adobe Premiere Elements. Premiere Elements is the movie equivalent of Photoshop Elements and is one of the best-selling video editing software packages in the world. At the end of the course you will know how to edit movie clips taken with a mobile phone, digital camera or camcorder and how to add titles and music.

The course is taught via description, demonstration and hands-on practical work.

Topics include:

- Importing the footage into your computer
- Learning how to use Premiere Elements
- Trimming and assembling your video clips
- Adding still photographs
- Adding background music
- Adding transitions such as dissolves, wipes and fades
- Adding titles and credits
- Exporting your completed movie so that it can be viewed by others

How will I be taught?

Our teaching methods include tutor demonstration, group discussion and practical application. Supportive handouts are issued as appropriate.

What do I need to bring with me?

A notepad and pen. Your own digital video clips of days out with family and friends on a USB memory stick or your own digital camera/mobile phone would be helpful.

What do I need to join the course

Everyone is welcome to join this course. No prior knowledge or experience is required, although basic IT skills are essential.

Those who wish to learn how to make and edit simple movies with the help of a computer.

Please note: This course is not intended for students who wish to learn about filming techniques or how to handle a digital video camera.

About the Tutor: John Richard Ray

A linguist by education, John has spent his career in industry, much of it in ICT. As British Rail's IT Education &Training Manager, John introduced thousands of colleagues to computing. Since 2004, John has been working for Kent Adult Education, teaching digital imaging with Photoshop Elements, both for general users and for artists and video production and editing with Premiere Elements. John also teaches short courses on simple website design and introduction to smartphones. John has written a series of articles on digital imaging for The Artist magazine. Quals: MA (Cantab) CMILT.
