About this course

This 6-week Creative Textiles and Mixed Media course in Maidstone, is designed to give students the opportunity to experience different techniques. This course follows on from the course which commenced in September 2018.

Whilst it would be helpful to have completed the earlier course as some of the techniques are likely to be developed in this follow-on course, students can join either or both courses.

There will be a series of 6 mini workshops of 4.5 hours, each introducing a different exciting creative process.

There will be lots of ideas and inspiration.

The tutor will bring examples from workshops with people such as Cas Holmes, Sue Newhouse, Tracy Franklin, Margaret Beal, Maggie Grey, Angie Hughes, Trish Burr, Lynda Monk, and Frances Pickering.

Proposed dates for the course are:
- 26 January
- 23 February
- 23 March
- 27 April
- 18 May
- 1 June

How will I be taught?

The course will include discussions in small and larger groups and some work on a one-to-one basis.
The tutor will select various methods to help students develop their skills; they may include tutor demonstrations, practical activity and an exhibition of the tutor’s work.

Students will be encouraged to share ideas throughout the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students will be expected to provide their own materials, threads, paints and stitching tools as appropriate to the techniques taught. The tutor may have various items for sale and may also provide some materials for which there will be a small charge.

You may like to bring a notebook and pencil and/or a camera to record ideas and recommendations and to document your progress. You may photograph the tutor’s work for learning purposes only.

You will need the usual sewing equipment. If there is anything more specific for the first lesson the tutor will be in touch with you. If you have attended the first course you may wish to continue with a project or the tutor may have already advised you about requirements for this course.
We advise students not to purchase equipment, books or materials until the course is confirmed.

What can I do next?

Other exciting creative courses are available to supplement your learning. Please ask the tutor for details of other workshops.
