About this course

There are a number of skills involved in making drawings. This course is aimed at beginners to intermediates and introduces to student to develop a personal approach to creating drawings and studies in outside spaces using your sketchbook as a resource..This is intended to provide students with an imaginative use of drawing skills through a variety of projects during the session and providing an introduction to experimental creative drawing and mark-making techniques.

By the end of the lesson all the students should be able to:
• Make drawings and mixed media studies exploring a range of materials and methods.
• Develop confidence in drawing on location and the development a personal approach to keeping of sketchbooks
• Explore different approaches to developing a personal reference to drawing on location for future practice.
• Gain confidence in sharing ideas with other like-minded people in the class.
• Made progression during the session as techniques are applied.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, 1:1 tuition, discussion and practical exercises and will give you individual feedback throughout the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students will need to supply own materials. It is recommended to have as a minimum: A hard back spiral bound sketch pad (A5 landscape or A4)
Please bring basic drawing materials that you may already have such as pencils, watercolour with you. There will be some additional pencils etc for use on the day for which a small cover charge has been included. Suitable clothing for outdoor work

Cas Holmes is a professional fine artist with over thirty years experience. She trained in the UK at UCA Maidstone and also in Japan, India and Canada. She teaches internationally and is the author of The Found Object in Textile Art, Connected Cloth and soon to be published Stitch Stories.
