How will I be taught?
This will be a hands-on practical course with tutor input and demonstrations. A handbook will be provided.
You will be taught in a group of no more than 12 people by an experienced tutor who has previously worked for the ambulance service and has a wealth of real-life experience.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothes. Women are advised to wear trousers.
For the assessments you will need to be able to get down on the floor into kneeling position.
What can I do next?
Upon completion and passing the practical assessments and exam, an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate will be issued by the awarding body, Qualsafe.
A further course to consider would be a three-day First Aid at Work course.
What do I need to join the course
No prior qualifications or experience are necessary to join this course.
You will be taught basic life-saving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations.
You will find out what it takes to manage an incident and how to prioritise who needs help.
There will be a series of practical assessments, including:
• Treatment of an unconscious casualty including the use of an AED
• Managing a choking incident
There is a multiple-choice exam at the end of the day. There are 20 questions, of which 14 must be answered correctly to pass.
