About the Tutor: Tamar Hirshfeld

Tamar has been a qualified Tai Chi and Qigong teacher since 1998. Her teacher was one of John Kells’ first disciples in London in the 1970s. She is a member of the TCUGB (the British Tai Chi Union) and teaches the Cheng Man-Ching Yang style, which focuses on softness and relaxation of body and mind through Tai Chi.

Tamar has spent her career exploring ways of adapting Tai Chi to make it accessible, enjoyable and effective for people of all levels, abilities and needs.

As such, she delivers Chair based sessions, uses Tai Chi techniques for depression and stress management, and works with children and young people on the autistic spectrum. The sessions follow the Tai Chi way and philosophy and focus on using aspects of this art and adapt them to best suit the individual. Classes focus on Tai Chi as meditation in movement, and involve breathing exercises and soft flowing movements that work as tools to connect awareness of body and mind.

“(On the first class) we went through some very simple relaxation techniques, and I left feeling almost lighter in body and soul. I used to suffer from excruciating tension headaches and since (I started Tai Chi classes) I haven’t had one.”
(Sandy, Ramsgate)
“… the utmost patience, understanding and respect of individuals-to hold group sessions that make each student feel as if they have been especially tailored for him or her. An inspiration.”
(Carey, 46, London)
