About this course

If you are a complete beginner at painting seascapes or need a refresher, then this is the course for you. You will explore the subject of seascape through investigating the work of a range of artists and through exploring composition and different techniques in your work. You will have the opportunity to experiment and develop your own style through the creation of original pieces of artwork.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Select from and use a range of methods of painting seascapes
Create depth in a seascape painting
Develop your compositional skills
Make reference to the work of other seascape artists
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines.

There is no set ‘homework’, but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along to the first session anything you have already that you think will be useful, e.g. hard and soft pencils (perhaps H, B, 2B, 6B), any paints you may have already and a sketchbook.

What can I do next?

A further drawing and/or painting course with KAE.

What do I need to join the course

This mixed level course is suitable for beginners and those with a little experience of painting seascapes. It is not suitable for those who are beginners at painting. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.
