View all news storiesKent Adult Education’s Family Maths course saw learner Sarah Partridge grow from strength to strength and her tutor wanted to celebrate her achievements by nominating her for a Festival of Learning Award.
Sarah joined the course to improve her own Maths skills to work towards completing a Teaching Assistant qualification and to better support her children.
She had a difficult time at school with bullying and missed out on gaining the Maths skills and qualifications to work in her dream job as a Teaching Assistant. When she saw there was a chance to go back in to adult education and learn the skills she required to further her qualifications she jumped at the chance.
She said: "It worked around my busy life with my children, more to the point it was taught to my specific way of learning. It gave me a much different learning environment. Also it gave me a new found confidence within myself".
With 100% attendance to classes, Sarah climbed the ladder from E3 Maths and E3 English (FS) to L2 Maths and L2 English and then went on to gain a Teaching Assistant qualification and then employment in the field.
Her tutor was so impressed with her attendance as Sarah is the first learner she has had in over 12 years of teaching to attend every class. Not only did Sarah help her peers with their learning, she also went above and beyond to help them with any struggles that might directly or indirectly impact their learning.
Her tutor said: “When a peer was struggling financially, she organised and contributed towards a weekly food shop for that learner so her family would eat. She is also the first person to think of another’s birthday or when someone’s going through a difficult time. Her presence contributes positively in many ways to the group dynamic.
Additionally, she has showed perseverance, commitment and resilience to progress with us over the course of her learning journey.”
Sarah is now looking to progress in her career as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
Congratulations Sarah from everyone at Kent Adult Education.
